Overview
Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile companion app for Ledger hardware wallets. It provides secure account management, send/receive flows, portfolio tracking, and access to decentralized services without exposing your private keys. Use Ledger Live only with official releases downloadable from the Ledger site or official app stores.
Before you begin
Have these ready:
- Your Ledger device (Nano S Plus, Nano X, or other supported model).
- USB cable (or Bluetooth-enabled device for Nano X mobile pairing).
- Your 24-word recovery phrase written on the recovery card (never enter it into any app or website).
- A computer or phone with a supported OS and an internet connection for downloads and updates.
Step 1 — Download Ledger Live
Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website or an official app store. After downloading, verify the file signature if available (Ledger publishes signature hashes for binaries to verify integrity).
Install (desktop)
- Go to the official Ledger Live download page and pick your OS.
- Run the installer and allow required device permissions.
- Open Ledger Live and follow the first-time setup wizard.
Install (mobile)
- Open App Store / Google Play and search for "Ledger Live".
- Install and open the app. Use Bluetooth pairing for compatible devices if requested.
Step 2 — Connect or initialize your device
If your device is new, follow the hardware setup to create a PIN and record the recovery phrase. If you already have a recovery phrase from another device, choose the appropriate recovery/restore option — but never type your 24-word recovery phrase into any app; it's used only on the device.
Step 3 — Add accounts in Ledger Live
Use the "Manager" in Ledger Live to install blockchain apps on your device, then add corresponding accounts. Accounts allow viewing balances and creating transactions that the Ledger device signs offline.
Security best practices
- Never reveal your recovery phrase. Ledger staff or legitimate apps will never ask for it.
- Verify URLs, download sources, and binary signatures when possible.
- Keep firmware and Ledger Live up to date; only update firmware when following official instructions.
- Test with small transactions before moving large amounts.
Troubleshooting (common issues)
- Device not recognized: Try a different USB cable or port, and ensure Ledger Live has required permissions.
- App not installing: Check OS compatibility and Ledger Live Manager logs for details.
- Fake apps or phishing: If an interface asks for the recovery phrase, treat it as a scam and stop immediately.
